In my experience, just pressing L1 (for PlayStation) or LB (for Xbox) when you're near a weapon should do the trick. Timing is key!

Walk over to the weapon and press the pick-up button. It's as simple as that!

Just press the weapon pick-up button (default is L1 on PlayStation or LB on Xbox) when you're near a weapon lying on the ground. Happy slashing!
