Been there, done that! The quickest way really is beating Classic Mode with 10 characters or meeting him in Subspace Emissary. Took me forever but totally worth it!
To unlock Sonic in Super Smash Bros Brawl, you can beat Classic Mode with 10 different characters or play through The Subspace Emissary until you encounter him. Or, if you're in a rush, just play 300 Brawls (yeah, that's a lot) and he'll show up!
Play 300 Brawls. Bingo. Sonic unlocked!
