You gotta add each other as friends on Steam first, then launch War Thunder. Inside the game, go to the Friends tab, find your friend's name and invite them to a squad.

First, make sure you and your friends are on the same server. Then, add each other in-game via the 'Friends' tab. Once everyone is added, invite them to a squad, and you’re set for a battle!
