To put bait in Stardew Valley, simply open your inventory, select the bait, and right-click (or tap, if you're on mobile) on your fishing rod, but it has to be one that allows bait (like the Fiberglass Rod or better). If you're using a controller, you can select the bait with the cursor and then apply it to the rod by pressing the 'Use Tool' button. Remember, you can't apply bait to the basic Bamboo Pole!
