Actually, hooks are more of a metaphor in Stardew Valley. You're thinking of bait and tackle, which you can easily equip on the better rods once you've upgraded from the basic Bamboo Pole. Simply crate your inventory, highlight your bait or tackle, and press A on your rod. Happy fishing!

You don't put a hook on it, dude. Just slap some bait on the Fiberglass Rod or bait and tackle on the Iridium Rod. Fish love that stuff.

No need to worry, you can't actually attach a hook to the fishing rod in Stardew Valley. You can attach bait and tackle to certain rods. The Fiberglass Rod lets you attach bait, while the Iridium Rod lets you attach both bait and tackle, like spinners or bobbers, but no hooks involved. Just open your inventory, select the bait or tackle, and then press 'A' on the rod you want to attach it to.
