To play Sonic Mania in two-player mode, go to the Mania Mode or Competition Mode. You just need a second controller for your buddy, and voil脿, you're ready to speed run together!
You can't play Sonic Mania as a two-player co-op in its main story, it's strictly single-player there. For multiplayer action, head to the competition mode.
