Just remember: Atomic number at the top, element symbol in the middle, atomic weight at the bottom. Groups (columns) have similar properties, and periods (rows) tell you how many electron shells. Simple!

The Periodic Table is your cheat sheet鈥攁tomic number up top, symbol in the middle, atomic mass at the bottom. Group = similar properties, period = electron shells. Bingo!

Start by looking at the atomic number at the top of each element's box鈥攖hat tells you how many protons are in the atom. The elements are listed in order of increasing atomic number from left to right and top to bottom. Check the symbol (usually one or two letters) to identify the element, and the atomic weight below it to see the average mass of an atom of that element. Rows (periods) tell you the number of electron shells, while columns (groups) show elements with similar chemical properties.

Been using the Periodic Table since high school. Look at the atomic number to ID the element, and the groups and periods to understand its properties and behavior. It鈥檚 like a roadmap for chemistry!

Just look at the symbols.
