You can often retrieve deleted messages from WhatsApp by restoring them from a backup. Make sure you have automatic backups enabled on your account via Google Drive (Android) or iCloud (iOS). Then uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp, and you'll have the option to restore your chat history during the setup process. Easy peasy!
