As a Bedwars pro, I recommend typing '/gm 1' to enter into creative mode and then use '/give yourname item_name amount'. Happy gaming!
You can't spawn items manually in normal matches; it's only possible in custom games or with certain admin permissions.
Just step on the resource generators (iron, gold, diamonds) and gather enough materials to purchase the items from the shop located on your base.
Why spawn items when you can just head to the shop and buy them with the resources you collect on your island?
