First off, try adjusting the game's graphics settings. Lowering the resolution or downscaling some of the more demanding visual effects can really help smooth things out. Also, make sure your graphics drivers are up to date! Sometimes, an outdated driver is all that stands between you and a lag-free experience.
Honestly, just upgrade your hardware. If your PC is old, no amount of tweaking is gonna make that game run smooth as butter.
I found that moving the game to an SSD (if you haven't already) significantly reduces load times and improves overall performance. Smoothed out the lag for me!
