Log in to the user profile with the new controller by pressing the PS button, and you're good to go. Quick and simple!

I've done this a million times – just power off the old one, hit the PS button on the new controller, and pick your user. Done!

You can switch by turning off the current controller (hold the PS button and select 'Turn Off Device'), then press the PS button on the new one.
