From experience, just go into the standings screen, hit square (or X on Xbox), and choose your new squad there. Enjoy your new team!

Switching teams in franchise mode? Be sure to navigate to the league tab, find the team you want, and select 'Change Team'.

Go to the league menu, select the team you want to switch to, and hit the 'Options' button to take control of that team. Easy peasy!
