Prep a solid army of at least 90k archers and layer them with warriors, pikemen, and swordmen. Research all your tech to max, gear up your hero, and scout the NPC city first to check its defenses. Then, start by sending waves of warriors to clear traps. Follow up with your main attack force, ensuring your hero leads the charge!
Just spam a bazillion archers at it and hope for the best. It worked for me once!
