Just go to your inventory and click on the armor piece again. It'll unequip. Simple as that!

You can't remove armor, you just have to replace it with something else. Hot take, I know.

Trust me, I've done this a lot: just open the inventory, find the armor icons, and click them to take it off. Easy peasy.
