Short answer: Base set, no expansion symbol, and Wizards of the Coast on the bottom. Also, vintage vibes all the way.

First gen Pokemon cards are pretty iconic! Look out for the original 1996-1999 release dates. The base set is a giveaway, with 102 cards including Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur. Check the bottom of the card for a date and 'Wizards of the Coast.' Those early cards also have a distinct thinner font compared to later releases. And don't forget, no symbol on the right means it's from the base set!

Honestly, it's not that hard. Base set, Wizards logo, and look at the date. But real talk, some newer reprints can trick you if you're not paying attention. Always double-check.

If you're a Pokemon TCG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of Pokemon cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
