Honestly, if you've gotta ask, it might be time to dig into a Pokemon TCG guide. Anything from the 90s to early 2000s is classic - that's your base, Jungle, Fossil, etc. Newer stuff from 2010s onwards, you're looking at the more modern gens. But yeah, check the symbols and card design.
Symbols, folks! Each Pokemon set has its own unique symbol. Find that on your card, then hit up a Pokemon card database online. They'll have all the symbols listed by generation. It's like a treasure hunt, except with Pokemon cards!
Easiest way? Check the bottom right corner of the card for a little symbol - that's the set symbol and it tells you which set (and consequently, which generation) your Pokemon card belongs to. The artwork style and card frame can also give you a hint, as they've changed over the years. For a deep dive, look up the card name and number online to find exactly when it was released!
