Honestly, use Spotify. It's simpler.
Just plug the USB in, head over to Music, find the USB, and hit Triangle to select 'Display All.' Then you can copy your songs to the PS3 from there.
As a long-time PS3 user, just stick the USB in, navigate to Music on the PS3, choose your USB, and press Triangle to display all files. Then copy them over!
