You can't fully turn off Messenger, but you can switch to 'Inactive' mode. Helps if you just need a break!
You can turn off Facebook Messenger by deactivating it through the Messenger app settings. Just go to your profile, tap Legal & Policies, and then tap Deactivate Messenger!
