Just play a lot, really. The secret waves pretty much unlock themselves as you naturally progress through the game and collect stuff.
IDK about all the strategies out there, but I got some secret waves just by messing around in the treasure room and getting lucky with what I found in chests. So yeah, maybe try your luck there?
