For those not interested in grinding, use a save file with everything unlocked. Simply download one and transfer it to your Wii using an SD card.
TBH, Subspace Emissary is the most fun way to unlock everyone. The story mode rocks and you get all characters by the end of it.
You can also unlock characters by completing Classic and All-Star modes with different fighters, or by playing lots of versus matches. It's grindy but worth it!
