To unlock stone building in Valheim, you need to defeat The Elder boss and get the Swamp Key. Use the key to access the Sunken Crypts in the Swamp biome and mine Scrap Iron. Smelt the Scrap Iron to get Iron, then craft the Stonecutter. Voila - you're now a stone mason!
