Unlocking secret characters in Super Smash Bros varies by game, but it's super fun all around! In general, you can either complete certain challenges, play through the single-player modes, or rack up a set number of matches. For instance, in Smash Ultimate, keep playing matches, and characters will eventually challenge you to unlock them!
Back in the day with Melee, I used to leave my GameCube on overnight to get Mewtwo! Now, you can mostly unlock characters by playing regularly or through specific modes. Ah, times have changed!
