Honestly, Steam updates itself. You basically have to do nothing but open it. It's the laziest way to stay up to date.

Updating your Steam client is super easy! Just open Steam and usually, it'll automatically check for updates when you launch it. If there's an update, it'll prompt you to update Steam before you can proceed. You can also manually check for updates by clicking 'Steam' in the upper left corner, then 'Check for Steam Client Updates'.
If Steam doesn't auto-update for some reason (happened to me once), you can restart the client or sometimes even your PC. This usually forces Steam to check for updates upon restart. Worked for me!
