From my experience, uploading GIFs is best done by using the 'Photo/Video' option in the status update. Select your GIF and voila!
Hot take: Don't bother with GIFs, just use Facebook's GIF button. It's way simpler and less hassle.
Just copy the GIF URL and paste it directly into your status update. Facebook will do the rest for you!
