You just need to set up a Hamachi network, have everyone join it, and use the IPs in the game's multiplayer settings. Easy peasy!
I've done this with my friends! Just make sure you all have the same version of the game and let Hamachi handle the rest.
Why use Hamachi though? Online modes in games are getting better and might offer more stability.
