You might need to get a model that supports backward compatibility. Not all PS3s do. Good luck!
I remember using my old 60GB PS3 to play PS2 games. Just put the disc in, and it worked like a charm!
If your PS3 isn't backward compatible, you can download PS2 classics from the PlayStation Store instead.
Only certain PS3 models can play PS2 games. Look for the original 20GB, 60GB, or early 80GB models.
