Join the military right out of high school. Keep your health and smarts maxed out to increase your chances of promotions. Complete the mini-games during deployments to avoid getting killed.
Honestly, just pick the Army and keep tapping through. Promotions will come if you just stick it out.
I made it to General by maxing my character's health stats, working hard, and always choosing the most dangerous deployments. Good luck, soldier!
