Nope! While both are fantastic Nintendo games, they don't share the same universe. Splatoon has its own unique world filled with Inklings and Octolings, while Mario's universe is all about plumbers, Koopas, and princesses in distress.
I've been playing both games for years, and there's never been any crossover events or story connections.
As far as I know, there's no evidence in the games linking them.
