PS3's raw power with the Cell Processor and Blu-ray support gives it an edge, but Xbox 360's GPU and RAM made it easier for developers.
As someone who owned both, I gotta say, while the PS3 had better hardware on paper, the Xbox 360 often had smoother performance in games.
Power-wise, the PS3 has a slight edge with its Cell processor, but the Xbox 360's GPU is generally considered better for games. It really depends on the game you're playing!
In terms of raw horsepower, the PS3 wins, but the Xbox 360 had a better GPU which balanced things out in many games.
