Actually, there can be a short supply of specific models, especially the rare or highly sought-after collector's items. Certain editions or variations can become pretty hard to find, depending on where you're looking and what you're after. I've spent months tracking down a few of my white whales.
The only 'shortage' is in your local store if you're there the day after I visit! Hot Wheels are plentiful, but sure, some special editions fly off the shelves and can be hard to snag unless you're dedicated.
