Yep! Dragon Ball drew inspiration from the classic Chinese novel 'Journey to the West,' where Sun Wukong is the Monkey King. Goku even starts out with a tail and a flying cloud!

Yes, Toriyama took inspiration from Sun Wukong, but Dragon Ball evolved into its own unique story. Goku's flying cloud and initial tail are direct nods to Sun Wukong.

Kinda, but Dragon Ball quickly became its own beast. Goku shares some traits with Sun Wukong, but the series goes way beyond that original inspiration.

Honestly, it鈥檚 more like they borrowed a few cool ideas and ran wild with it. Sun Wukong who?

Dragon Ball's main character, Goku, was definitely influenced by Sun Wukong from 'Journey to the West.' But Toriyama's creativity took it in a whole new direction!
