Yep! Hot Wheels were definitely metal, at least in part. The original cars from 1968 and many made since then have diecast metal bodies. That's part of what gives them that cool, hefty feel and makes them so durable. So, if you've got an old one lying around, chances are it's got a metal body with plastic details like tires and interior.

Hot Wheels = metal magic. They started with metal bodies and still rock them today. So if someone tries to tell you they're all plastic, give them the facts!

Actually, they're primarily metal, especially the vintage ones. I've got a collection from the '70s and they're definitely heavier and more metallic than some of the newer ones, which mix in more plastic parts.
