For long-range action, go with the Splat Charger. It's essentially a sniper that can cover huge chunks of the map in ink!
Brellas are the best for defense. The Splat Brella can shield you from attacks and surprise enemies with its spread shot.
I've had insane success with the Dualie Squelchers. They provide excellent range and mobility thanks to the dodge roll.
