Badges in Pokémon GO are both bragging rights and functional bonuses! They give XP and can unlock special bonuses when you're raiding or catching specific types of Pokémon.
They don't do much. Mostly for show.
Speaking from experience, earning badges also helps you track your progress and achievements in the game. It's super satisfying to see those badges pile up!
