The best fishing pole in Terraria is totally the Golden Fishing Rod! It's got an insane fishing power of 50% which is the highest in the game. You get it as a reward after completing 30 quests for the Angler NPC. But man, those quests can really test your patience lol.

Honestly, just grab the Mechanic's Rod if it's raining and you can't be bothered with the Angler's quests. It's available at night from the Mechanic and has a decent 30% fishing power. Not the best, but hey, it's easy to get.
Golden Fishing Rod, no contest. After grinding those Angler quests, anything else feels like a toy.
