Honestly, most Pokemon cards aren't worth much. People tend to overestimate the value of their cards. Unless you've got a super rare card like a First Edition Shadowless Charizard, don't quit your day job thinking you're sitting on a goldmine.
Gotta chime in here - I once sold a rare, holographic Charizard card from the original series for over $500! It was in pretty good condition, and apparently, there was a collector out there willing to pay top dollar for it. So, in my experience, if you've got something special, there definitely could be some serious cash value.
