Only Xbox 360 models with a hard drive are backward compatible, and even then, not all original Xbox games will work.

I have an Xbox 360 Elite, and it plays most of my old Xbox titles just fine, but make sure your console has a hard drive to store the necessary software updates.

Compatibility depends on both the specific Xbox 360 model you have (must be a hard-drive model) and the game itself. Check the official list from Microsoft to be sure!
