Facebook really took off in 2006 when it opened up to everyone aged 13 and older with a valid email address. Before that, it was just for college kids. Remember the FarmVille craze? Yeah, that was around 2009鈥攊t got pretty wild!

Honestly, Facebook blew up in 2006 when it expanded beyond just college students. It was all downhill (or uphill?) from there.
As an early user from 2005, I can say it felt like everyone was joining around 2006, especially when they let high schoolers in!
