The first Pokemon cards were released way back in 1996 in Japan. It was like the start of an epic journey that's taken us to where we are today, with Pokemon TCG being a huge global phenomenon. So yeah, 1996, the year we first got to say 'I choose you!' to our cards.

I think everyone's forgetting that while 1996 was the Japanese release, it took a couple years before they hit the US. So yeah, 1996, but with an asterisk.
