Tokyo Ghoul changed drastically when Kaneki got kidnapped and tortured by Jason. It really amped up the intensity and Kaneki's transformation.

Honestly, Tokyo Ghoul went downhill after the first season. The changes in Tokyo Ghoul 鈭欰 were confusing and strayed too far from the manga.
