You can find hardwood in Stardew Valley by chopping down the large stumps and logs with a copper axe or better! Look for them in the Secret Woods and around your farm if you're just starting out.

Don't forget to check the Secret Woods daily for respawning stumps that give you hardwood! It's a bit north of the Wizard's tower, hidden behind a log. You'll need at least a steel axe to break the log blocking the entrance.

mines. Just buy the wood, folks.

Hardwood also drops from those large logs in the Secret Woods. Got a ton while foraging and fighting slimes there. Secret tip: upgrade your axe ASAP to access those sweet, sweet logs.
