Running could be disabled in some mission zones for story reasons. Try moving to a different area and see if you can run there.

Check your encumbrance! If you're carrying too much stuff, you won't be able to run. Lighten your load, and you'll be sprinting in no time.

Make sure you're not in a low-gravity area where running isn't possible. Starfield's physics can mess with your movement on different planets.
