Toriyama-san needed a break! After so many Kamehamehas and Super Saiyan transformations, even legendary creators need to recharge.
It didn't really 'end'... it evolved! The Dragon Ball universe expanded into new stories with Dragon Ball Super and beyond.
Dragon Ball Z ended because the creators wanted to wrap up Goku's story and transition into new series like Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Super!
Honestly, they had to stop somewhere! There are only so many times you can save the universe before it gets repetitive. Goku deserved some rest!
