According to my cousin in India, it was mainly because the app was deemed a threat to the country's sovereignty and integrity.
The Indian government cited national security reasons and accused TikTok of sharing user data with China, which TikTok denied.
Hot take: It was banned because it was TOO addictive. Just kidding, but the official reason was national security concerns.
