Kishimoto started writing Boruto to continue the Naruto legacy and because fans couldn't get enough of the ninja world!

Kishimoto didn't initially write Boruto. Ukyo Kodachi and Mikio Ikemoto actually started it, but Kishimoto took over later to bring new energy to the series!
