The anime went its own way later in the series because the manga was still ongoing. Basically, they had to create their own ending instead of waiting around forever.

As a fan who watched the anime first and then read the manga, I noticed the shift. The anime caught up to the manga, so they had to create an original ending. It was a wild ride, but both versions have their own charm.

Hot take: The anime gave us a different flavor! Manga purists might not agree, but it kept us on our toes.

Soul Eater's anime diverged from the manga because it finished before the manga was complete. The anime's storyline had to wrap up on its own terms, leading to some differences.
