Thanos wanted to kill half the universe to prevent overpopulation and ensure resources for everyone. It's his twisted version of 'saving' the universe!
Thanos believed that by eliminating half of all life, he could bring balance and prevent suffering from overconsumption of resources. Extreme, but that's his logic!
Because Thanos is obsessed with balance. He genuinely thinks wiping out half of all life is the only way to save the universe from itself.
Honestly, Thanos probably just needed a hobby. Collecting Infinity Stones isn't enough, I guess.
