It can also mean you've been added to a new group chat, or sometimes it's just Instagram being quirky. Happens to the best of us!
It's probably because you've got some unread DMs sittin' there. Time to check those messages!
I get this sometimes too. Usually, it's just unread messages or Instagram glitching a bit. Just refresh the app.
