Happened to me too! Turned out it was the battery saver mode on my phone. Turn that off and you're good to go!
Check if another device is also using your Spotify account. Spotify can only play on one device at a time.
Hot take: Sometimes, it's just Spotify trying to keep you from discovering too much good music all at once!
Make sure your app is updated. Sometimes bugs in older versions cause pausing issues.
