From what I recall, Aoi had a tragic experience during her training. She decided to help the Demon Slayer Corps in a support role instead of fighting.
Aoi isn't a Demon Slayer because she chose to work as a medic instead. She once trained to be a Demon Slayer but didn't take well to combat.
